The Othmer Library makes available modern materials for interlibrary loan to patrons at other libraries.
If a patron is interested in borrowing a book they should contact their affiliated library (university or public).

The Othmer Library offers document delivery services. Document delivery encompasses articles, book chapters and some short documents. Items deemed too fragile will not be photocopied. All requested items must be cleared for copyright or be in the public domain. If you are not an OCLC participating library then please fill out an ALA form and submit it to documents@sciencehistory.org
Charges are $20.00 an item which includes the first 10 pages and 25 cents a page after that.
For Science History Institute staff and fellows we have set up “direct requests,” this means that you will find the book or article you want in Worldcat Discovery and submit a request directly. You can search for articles and books. If the Othmer Library owns what you are searching for, then it will appear at the top of the list (these you will still request through our catalog), if we don’t own the item then the record will allow you to place an ILL request. Worldcat Discovery indexes most journals and a lot of book chapters to allow you to request article titles. Of course, everything isn’t indexed so if you can’t find what you want then send the librarians an email; the most likely culprits are going to be conference proceedings, industry journals and obscure historical citations.

Items that can be requested (not owned by us, not an e-book) will display a “Request Item” button; click then simply fill in your name, email and status.
