Many of the Spanish language chemistry journals in the Othmer Library's collection contain the obituaries for prominent chemists throughout Latin America. Some of these obituaries do not include dates of death. These obituaries are published in the journals in order to inform the public and scientific community about the passing of the chemists and of the many achievements the chemists' have made throughout their lifetime.
Dr. José Capote Díaz was the dean of the Pharmacy Department at the University of Havana, Cuba and is considered "one of the most prestigious pharmacists in America." He served as dean and professor at Havana University for over 40 years and was an honorary member of the Industria Farmacéutica Venezolana.
