Library Services During Covid Closures: External Patrons

These are the library services that we are able to offer while under partial quarantine measures. We will update this guide as we are able to offer more services.

Phase of Reopening

Due to the pandemic of the Corona virus:

The Institute is following CDC guidelines on safe workplace practices.

The library is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which is reopening under guidelines set by the Governor of the state as well as the Mayor of Philadelphia.

The Othmer Library is currently closed to research visits and library staff is on premises with the collections on a limited schedule. We are aiming to assist research and reference inquiries to the best of our ability at this time. Please contact us to discuss how we can help with scan and answering questions.

Reference questions for library, rare books and archives can be submitted through the reference form.

Research and reference interviews can be scheduled to happen virtually. We are working on a way to present materials during a virtual meeting so let us know if this would help your research. If you have future plans to research at the Science History Institute then please contact our staff so that we can anticipate future research volume and keep researchers informed of full library reopening plans.

Document delivery of modern library materials can be requested through the reference form. Please give full citations of the materials that you need. We will try to be timely with these requests, but staff are working on a limited schedule. Note that copyright, condition of materials and staff time may affect which items and the page limit that can be scanned.
