October 1939 Modern Plastics Catalog/Directory
The binding on this issue is a woven-wood veneer laminate developed in the Plastics Department of the General Electric Corp, with the Parkwood Corp., and the Mahogany Association. Marketed as Parkwood-Textolite a sheet is made from a thin veneer of wood. These sheets are then infused with resin to produce a 'wood' product with a longer useful life impervious to water, heat, etc. As the market grew for decorative laminates many other trade names emerged -- does Formica sound familiar?
N.B. Textolite was originally developed to provide electrical insulation.
Modern plastics is a monthly journal published by the Breskin Publishing Corporation. The Modern Plastics Catalog/Directory was issued separately with the September or October issue. Over the years the 'catalog' took on a variety of names.
